Code of Ethics & Conduct for Club Staff

This is the code you can expect your coaches & committee members to follow: 

» Put the well-being, health and safety of members above all considerations including developing performance.

» Comply with the codes, rules and laws as set out by Littlehampton Swimming Club and the ASA.

» Work without discrimination on the grounds of gender, ethnic origin, religion, disability or social status as set
   out in the equal opportunities policy.

» Respect the basic human rights, worth and dignity of each member and treat all swimmers fairly.

» Not encourage swimmers, volunteers, officials or parents to violate the rules of the club or the sport and never
   to condone the use of prohibited substances.

» Observe the authority and the decisions of all officials.

» Encourage all swimmers to obey the spirit of the rules and laws both in and out of the pool, and to accept
   responsibility for their own behaviour in accordance with Littlehampton Swimming Club’s Teamship Rules
   and Code of Conduct for Swimmers.

» Ensure that all teaching and training and competition programmes are appropriate for the age, ability and
   experience of the individual swimmer and is carried out in a manner that is in keeping with regular and approved
   practice within the sport.

» Ensure that swimmers, and where appropriate their parents/carers, know exactly what is expected of them and
   what they can expect from their coaches.

» Cooperate fully with other specialists such as doctors, physiotherapists, other coaches e.g. of swimmers
   receiving county training, in the best interests of the swimmers.

» Treat other competitors and teams with respect, in victory and defeat.

» Be able to present evidence of qualifications on request.

» Seek ways of and be willing to increase the development of their current qualifications. 

» Treat all personal information about individual members as confidential except in exceptional circumstances
   regarding health and safety, medical requirements, disciplinary action or in accordance with the Littlehampton
   Swimming Club and ASA Child Protection procedures and guidelines.

» Consistently display the highest standards of behaviour, personal hygiene and appearance.

» Not drink alcohol or smoke either before or during teaching or coaching sessions or competitions.

» Promote a supportive and positive environment that encourages healthy competition, skill development, fun and
   achievement, where bullying is not tolerated in accordance with Littlehampton Swimming Club’s anti-bullying
   policy.

» Develop appropriate working relationships with the swimmers, their parents/ carers and our Partners based on
   mutual trust and respect.
